About Dr. Antequera Parilli
Dr. Ricardo Antequera Parilli, founder of Antequera Parilli & Rodríguez, was considered one of the most prominent and influential figures in the area of Intellectual Property in South America. His career and dedication spanned more than four decades, in which he accrued important achievements including the drafting of legal regulations on Copyright of several countries, including Venezuela, Costa Rica, Panama and the Dominican Republic.
He was also a great influence for many students through his teachings in universities throughout Ibero-America. For his students, he was a brilliant, attentive and dedicated teacher. He is often described as a “walking encyclopedia of Intellectual Property”, as he was the author of 17 books on the subject and published more than 150 articles.
Dr. Antequera Parilli officially represented Venezuela several times in international meetings. He served as advisor to diplomatic delegations to the International Treaty Agreements on double taxation of authors; he was a member of the commission on Intellectual Property negotiations for the Group of Three Treaty, member of the Board Delegation of the Agreement of Cartagena for the adoption of Decision 351, member of the Delegation to the Diplomatic Conference convened by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), for the preparation of a possible Protocol to the Berne Convention, and spokesman for Latin America and the Caribbean in the Working Committee, as well as a member of the Delegation of the Diplomatic Convention convened by WIPO, for the adoption of new treaties and interpretations for the protection of performers, and producers of phonograms in international travel. He was also a consultant to WIPO, the Regional Center for the Promotion of Books in Latin America and the Caribbean (CERLALC), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Secretariat of Integration Central American Economic Area (SIECA) and the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA), among others.
His outstanding academic and professional activity made him worthy of many national and international awards, with honors from more than 20 universities and international copyright organizations, including the Inter-American Copyright Institute (IIDA), the Mexican Institute of Copyright Law. (IMDA), the Colombian Copyright Center (CECOLDA), the Ecuadorian Intellectual Property Academy (AECUPI) and the Brasileira Associação de Direito Autoral (ABDA – Brazil). His position and experience also earned him a classification as “Senior Statesman” in Intellectual Property by the publication Chambers and Partners Latin America.
Even after his death, on June 13, 2013, the passion of Dr. Antequera Parilli remains alive in all those who are part of this firm and devote themselves with the same enthusiasm to Intellectual Property, honoring its extensive and outstanding legacy.

The foundation Fundación Antequera Parilli was created in 2015 to encourage and disseminate scientific research on Intellectual Property in all its expressions, giving special emphasis to the vast written and audiovisual legacy left by Dr. Ricardo Antequera Parilli, founder of this firm. This institution also seeks to promote the values of: rigor, honesty, depth, structure, relevance, projection, and practical purpose that characterized Dr. Antequera’s scientific, investigative, and teaching work in various universities in Venezuela and Latin America.
