Supreme Court extends the suspension of legal proceedings and their lapses due to COVID-19
Continuing with the news of legal interest in Venezuela, we hereby inform you that on April 13, 2020, the Supreme Court of Justice issued Resolution No. 002-2020 extending for thirty (30) days the suspension of legal proceedings and their lapses, due to the state of emergency alarm by COVID-19 decreed by the Government. The practical implications of this extension are:
- All Courts are closed from April 13 to May 13, 2020, both dates inclusive;
- During that period, the legal proceedings will remain on hold and the lapses will not run;
- The Constitutional and Electoral Chambers of the Supreme Court will be on duty during the state of emergency, in order to receive petitions for Constitutional protection, fundamental rights defence and urgent matters; and,
- Criminal Courts will be open only for urgent matters.
